چکیده

Market research or employee surveys often involve: 1) a population of interest and 2) a need for measuring the number (percent) of people with a certain characteristic. Some of these population characteristics might be: percent of satisfied customers, percent of customers who showed interest toward a future product/service, or the number of people who might be users of a particular product/technology.

Sequential-Based Approach for Estimating the Stress-Strength Reliability Parameter for Exponential Distribution

In this paper, two-stage and purely sequential estimation procedures are considered to construct fixed-width confidence intervals for the reliability parameter under the stress-strength model when the stress and strength are independent exponential random variables with different scale parameters. The exact distribution of the stopping rule under the purely sequential procedure is approximated ...

Modified Sampling Strategies Using Correlation Coefficient for Estimating Population Mean

This paper proposes two sampling strategies based on the modified ratio estimator using the population mean of auxiliary variable and population correlation coefficient between the study variable and the auxiliary variable by Singh and Tailor (2003) for estimating the population mean (total) of the study variable in a finite population. A comparative study is made with usual sampling strategies...

On the Estimation of Confidence Intervals for Binomial Population Proportions in Astronomy: The Simplicity and Superiority of the Bayesian Approach

Abstract: I present a critical review of techniques for estimating confidence intervals on binomial population proportions inferred from success counts in small to intermediate samples. Population proportions arise frequently as quantities of interest in astronomical research; for instance, in studies aiming to constrain the bar fraction, active galactic nucleus fraction, supermassive black hol...

Empirical likelihood inference for regression parameters when modelling hierarchical complex survey data

The data used in social, behavioural, health or biological sciences may have a hierarchical structure due to the natural structure in the population of interest or due to the sampling design. Multilevel or marginal models are often used to analyse such hierarchical data. The data may include sample units selected with unequal probabilities from a clustered and stratified population. Inferences ...

Sampling from Dirichlet partitions: estimating the number of species

Consider the random Dirichlet partition of the interval into n fragments with parameter θ > 0. We recall the unordered Ewens sampling formulae from finite Dirichlet partitions. As this is a key variable for estimation purposes, focus is on the number of distinct visited species in the sampling process. These are illustrated in specific cases. We use these preliminary statistical results on freq...
